Welcome to my Private Server
This page serves as a index to various files and functions I host on my server.
Have you asked yourself – why isn’t this page styled?
I can tell you why – I find content more important than presentation aslong as the bad presentation doesn’t counteract content. Not using any fancy design or style makes the page much easier to maintain and change quickly, while maximizing cross compatibility over all systems and media. Thats also why I use TeX-derivates for typesetting for print (see Information Technologies bellow).
News
I’m planning implementing a changing section atop for current postings by me. – Stay Tuned!
Basic Functionality
Protected Functions for Users
Public Keys
Following are both the public PGP (I’m using GPG on GNU/Linux) key and a sample of my ATrust Signature for cross reference and validation,
as I use my PGP signature in all e-mail conversation for validation and encryption and my ATrust certificate for official signature of digital documents.
My current public Key is also available via PGP-Servers, like on pgp.mit.edu.
Philosophical and Political References
Various resources I find myself noteworthy and I recomend everyone to read (atleast partially).
Some general links I want to give you here, before presenting other noteworthy links grouped by topics.
- Books I’ve read, I am reading or still want to read. Ordered by topics, with reviews, comments and related articles. – Will follow soon! I’m currently working on implementing the interface. In the meantime you can visit my static Book List
- A public “Think Tank” with many interessting international guests and lectures “Bruno Kreisky – Forum for International Dialogue”: http://www.kreisky-forum.org/
- Center for American Progress – a progressive organization/forum similar to the Kreisky Forum in many ways: http://www.americanprogress.org/
Information Technologies – Free/Libre Software
- I’m using Free/Libre Open Source Software where-ever possible. Thats why I work on a mix of different GNU/Linux Operating Systems (at the moment various Debian and Ubuntu distributions on a variety of systems: Server, 2xDesktop, Netbook, Laptop, Nettop/Home Entertainment System): GNU/Linux Debian and GNU/Linux Ubuntu each in different versions.
- For typesetting I use various TeX (Correctly τɛχ in Greek) Systems – At the moment the TeXLive 2011 distribution http://www.tug.org/texlive/, from where I mainly use Xe(La)TeX because of it’s native Unicode Support in UTF-8 and OpenType. TeX-Systems follow the philosophy I share to keep content and presentation separated — making editing easy and worry-less while producing professional looking output.
- The Free Software Philosophy – Why software needs freedom: GNU-Project Philosophy – start with “What is Free Software?”
- The GNU General Public Licence, Version 3 as I use in many of my progragramming work, via the GNU Licenses Portal
- As flight simulation has long been a dear hobby of mine, I participate on an upcoming project by Quality Wings Simulations http://www.qwsim.com/ by contributing development tools (which are publically released under the GPL here: https://github.com/kleinjakob/FS-Tools) and my knowledge of the FS9 MDL format – with many of the great developers there, I have already worked in the sadly demised Project Opensky (2000-2010).
Information Media
- Very infromative and funny at times weekly newspaper in Vienna and Styria: Falter – Die Stadtzeitung
- ORF Ö1, the information and “cultural” radio programme of the public broadcasting station network. I do like the Journals and reports especially: http://oe1.orf.at/
- TELEPOLIS a critical web-magazine of the famous heise Verlag (publishing house) with general social and political reports and special emphasize on political aspects of data security and other information-technology related topics: http://www.heise.de/tp/
- Well sorted and very friendly bookstore in downtown Vienna with emphasis on classical and modern psychoanalytical, social critical and political books often with jewels not found in “mainstream-ed” bookstores today (or sometimes even not in university libraries!) A.Buch Salander
- Recherche – Zeitung für Wissenschaft: A newspaper for scientific history and philoshpy from Vienna in German. Very interesting articles and throrougly researched and documented (in which newspaper, not scientific journal, else do you find endnotes and literature lists to the articles?), you better bring some time when planning to read this. http://www.recherche-online.net/
- Mother Jones a US-american magazine and news portal with progressive view on US-american and global politics and economics. http://motherjones.com/
- New Left Review – for many progressives for the last 50 years the political magazine based in London with many (recurring) guest-authors on a wide array of topics, ranging from “Argentinia” to “Vietnam”, “Environment” to “Education” and “Economy”, and “Psychology and Psychoanalysis” and “Philosopy and Theory” to “Religion”. http://www.newleftreview.org/
- http://neuwal.com/ – A portal for interviews questionares and political news of Austria.
- Media Matters for America – A Portal dedicated to document and critically analyse the actions of mass media (especially the Right Wing Mass Media of the USA): http://mediamatters.org/
Other Media – Mostly Music and Film
Blogs I follow
and many others…
